As IDEMA – International Development Management, INOGAR, and Needs Map, we work together in coordination within the same ecosystem, sharing updates from our ecosystem, projects, and happenings in the field in our monthly newsletters.

Disaster Preparedness and Post-Disaster Reconstruction

We’ve Launched the Spain Flood Map

November 2, 2024

Following the major flood disaster that affected Spain, we have created the Spain Flood Map to provide detailed data about the disaster and contribute to disaster response efforts.

By combining building inventory data from OpenStreetMap and neighborhood population data from Esri Living Atlas, we analyzed the flood’s impact area and its effect on the population. Using MODIS satellite data, we mapped regional flooding from October 1-31.

46th Istanbul Marathon: We Took Steps for Disaster Volunteers

November 3-18, 2024

On November 3rd, at Turkey’s largest mass participation sports event, Needs Map took its usual place. This year, under the slogan #AdımlarımızAfetGönüllüleriİçin (Our Steps for Disaster Volunteers), we set out to raise disaster awareness and train 100 disaster volunteers, aiming to reach 10,000 people.

We would like to thank all the running volunteers who took steps for disaster volunteers during the 46th Istanbul Marathon, our motivational volunteers who added energy to our cause, and everyone who supported our campaign!


 

Technology for Good
We Were in Kenya with the Theme of Africa’s Digital Future

November 6-8, 2024

We attended the conference organized by The Platform Cooperativism Consortium in Mombasa, Kenya, under the theme “Digital Africa Rising.”

Mehmet Sarıca, Chairman of the Board of INOGAR, and Emircan Kürküt, Project Coordinator of Needs Map, were speakers at the “International Platform Cooperatives” panel.

The conference provided an opportunity to listen to best practices from platform cooperatives in African countries and discuss the future of cooperatives in areas such as digitalization, gender equality, fair working conditions, and resilience to the climate crisis.

We Were at the Launch of “Women’s Power in the Economy with a Focus on Technology”

November 12, 2024

At the event, where our Board Member Esra Arslan and Deputy General Manager of the Technology Department Özge Acar participated, presentations were made on the findings of the “Wtech Turkey Girls’ Awareness Map Report,” followed by inspiring sessions with the participation of NGO representatives and the private sector, as well as panels evaluating Turkey’s economic potential.

We Attended the Final Brighton Data Forum Event of 2024

The final Brighton Data Forum event of 2024 took place with inspiring discussions on geographic analysis, mapping, and data quality!

Evren Aydoğan, CEO of Needs Map Global, and Hasan Güler, Geographic Data Analyst, shared insights on how mapping supports social change and empowers organizations.

The Film Ceylin on the GardenART Stage

November 5, 2024

The film Ceylin, which has been featured in many prestigious festivals both domestically and internationally, tells the compelling story of Ceylin, who faces seasonal agricultural labor and child marriage. It was screened at INOgarden in Denizli, where it met the audience.

After the screening, a talk was held with the film’s director, Tufan Şimşekcan.

We Say “%100 Dialogue” with Türk Tuborg and the Repair Workshop

In collaboration with Türk Tuborg and the Repair Workshop, and with the consultancy of IDEMA, we’ve embarked on a new journey with the slogan “%100 Dialogue.”

The “%100 Dialogue” project creates an inclusive space for young people to discuss topics such as culture, art, entertainment, work life, gender equality, accessibility, and more. It aims to open up space for the needs and expectations of young people in the design of social benefit programs. Through this project, we are meeting with young people in different cities across Türkiye.

Social Benefit Communication Advertising Competition in Collaboration with Pamukkale University and INOgarden

November 19, 2024

A briefing and promotional event will be held for the Social Benefit Communication Advertising Competition, organized in collaboration with Pamukkale University’s Faculty of Communication and INOgarden.

The event will take place on Monday, November 25th, at 14:00 in the Hierapolis Conference Hall, where information will be provided about the competition’s purpose, content, process, and awards. Second, third, and fourth-year university students are invited to attend.

We Met with Young People in Çanakkale at the “Value for Life University Meetings”

November 30, 2024

We gathered with young people in Çanakkale at the “Value for Life University Meetings!” Organized by Kale Group at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, the event featured a session titled “Global to Local Transformation: At the Intersection in Çanakkale” moderated by Dr. Ali Ercan Özgür, Founding Partner of Needs Map. In this session, local solutions to global issues were explored, and participants discussed Çanakkale’s role in this transformation.

Anıl Gökrenk, General Manager of @idemaofficial, emphasized the importance of developing joint solutions and collaboration in the “The Key to Solutions in the New Paradigm: Collaboration” session, highlighting the role of cooperation in responding to crises.

We Participated in Global Donut Day

November 7, 2024

This year’s theme of the Global Donut Days, organized in collaboration with Doughnut Türkiye Community, the Repair Workshop, Impact Hub Ankara, and ORIGINN, with support from the Istanbul Planning Agency and Izmir Planning Agency, was “Local Actions, Global Connections.”

During the “Cooperation in a New Economy” panel, moderated by Fulden Ergen, INOGAR Board Member Prof. Dr. Itır Erhart, Prof. Dr. Kenan Çayır, Ebru Celkan, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ece Öztan shared valuable insights on how communities can coexist in new economies by looking beyond discrimination and rights.

In the “What Are We Going to Do with the Private Sector?” session, moderated by Semih Boyacı, IDEMA Deputy General Manager Gizem Aktaş Zara, Nazey Erdilek, and Ezgi Özkök Sefer discussed the social impact of the private sector and the power of collaborations.

We Visited the WFTO Africa and Middle East Regional Office in Kenya

November 11, 2024

As a member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), we visited the WFTO Africa and Middle East Regional Office in Kenya. INOGAR Chairman Mehmet Sarıca and Needs Map Project Coordinator Emircan Kürküt, along with Regional Director Bernard Outah, examined Fair Trade certified organizations in the region.

The New Stop on Our Development Journey: London

November 18, 2024

We are excited to announce the opening of the UK offices of IDEMA and Needs Map Global at the Sustainable Culture and Art Center, DasDas Box in London.

The opening event was attended by the Mayor of London, Alastair John Naisbitt King (@alastairjnking). This was followed by inspiring speeches from our Founding Partners Dr. Ali Ercan Özgür, Güler Altınsoy, and Mert Fırat. The day concluded with a live performance by James B. and Natalie Abel from the DasDas Box community.

We Became the First Social Cooperative Member of the Other Business Services Sector of the Service Exporters’ Association (HİB)

We are pleased to announce that Needs Map has become the first social cooperative member of the Other Business Services Sector of the Service Exporters’ Association (HİB).

As part of this, we hosted the November Committee Meeting.

The meeting, led by Sector President Salih Zeki Çakır, was attended by HİB Deputy Secretary-General Abdullah Keskin, İhtiyaç Haritası Founding Partner Mert Fırat, Board Member Esra Arslan, Deputy General Managers Berna Övül, Dorukhan Demirbilek, Zafer Kapusuz, and HİB Committee Members. During the meeting, we discussed the current issues in the sector and exchanged ideas on potential solutions.

 

We Were at the Innovative Data Sharing Forum

November 29, 2024

We were in Brussels at the Innovative Data Sharing Forum to share our expertise in shaping data applications for the social economy.

We are proud to announce that Needs Map co-founder Güler Altınsoy played a significant role in developing the European Union’s Code of Conduct on Data Sharing in the Social Economy, and co-chaired the expert group. Her contributions, both in the development of the code and as a representative of Needs Map, helped shape this important framework.

In addition to participating in the preparation of the code, Needs Map provided valuable contributions to data management efforts, serving as a best practice example. This process involved various workshops and face-to-face meetings, where Güler Altınsoy played an active role.

During the “Good Practices in Data Use for Social Economy” panel, Güler Altınsoy provided valuable insights on how data can be effectively used for social economy purposes.
